After Effects Tutorial Series: Rigging an Arm – PART 3

Continuing this series, Chad shows you how to control the rigged arm with expression controls in After Effects. Even if you’re unfamiliar with expressions, you can do this!

This mini-series is beneficial both for those new to After Effects and also those more skilled in character animation. It’s a pretty sweet trick, and some obstacles and extra tricks are covered throughout the series as well.

In Part 3 of the series, we control the grip of the hand, the bending of the elbow, and the rotation of the entire arm with 3 expression controls on a single null layer. This is really handy for those doing character animation, and really easy to pull off. In the next movie, we’ll look at how to use this arm to pick up objects.

Be sure to purchase the project files to follow along! These files contain the entire .aep file (including a separate comp for each step) and all accompanying files used in the entire training series. Only $2!

Great tutorials, thank you! I bought the project files, watched the first 3 tutorials, but I believe that it’s missing the tutorials nº 4 and 5 to complete the task. Could you post them as soon as possible? Because, without them, I can’t complete the project nor learn the complete lesson. Thank you!
